ponnulavu cennikula nannagar aNNAmalai tan pundiyil magizhndu nittam ninravan - He happily resides in the mind of Annamalai (the author) who belongs to the good town of Chennikulam, where goddess Lakshmi sports,
mundi vendiral arakkargaLai venravan - Long back, He defeated the demons of terrible power,
mayil pOla Enalin mIdulAvu kirAta mAdu mun EghiyE - Going up to the lovely graceful(like a peacock) hunter-girl (Valli) who was on the "tinai" fields,
"aDi pUvaiyE unadu tanjam" enravan - He said "O Lovely girl! You are my refuge" !
avaL Iyum mAvinaiyum menru tinravan He ate the millet flour (and honey) that she offered.

minnulavu shonnamuDi cenniyani viNNavar - The gods wearing golden, sparkling crowns on the heads, dEvEndranum siddhargaLum- and Indra and Siddhas
tunniyE - approaching with eagerness,
gati vENDiyE - seeking salvation,
aghattil anbu manniyE - with love in their hearts,
paNi - bow to
vElavan krpAkaran guhan - the merciful Lord Guha, holding the Vel(spear).
mEviDum kazhukAcalam tanil minjiya vaLangaLai nAn unniyE sholla - As I talk about the extreme prosperity of Kazhugachalam, where He resides,
ranjitamAgak kELaDi virpanniyE- listen with gladness, O adept girl!

mUsu vaNDu vAsamaNDu kAvil - The swarming insects, in the fragrant groves,
moNDu tEnaiyuNDu mOhana mukhAri rAgam pADumE - drink heartily the nectar there, and sing (buzz) in Ragas like MOhanam and Mukhari,
maiyal AghavE pEDaiyuDanE kUDumE - and, filled with love they unite with the females.
alai mOdu vAridhi nIrai vAri - Having drunk the water of the wave-filled ocean,
viN mIdulAviya shItaLAkara mukhil - the cool clouds roaming the sky
perum shikharamuTrum mUDumE - covers the mountain peaks fully.
kaNDu mayilinam shiragai virittADumE - Seeing this, the peacocks unfurl their tail feathers and dance.

vIratumbi rAsi - The herd of brave elephants
dEsu koNDa bhAratanda - having shining heavy tusks,
aNDar dEvatAruvaik-karattAl piDikkumE - grabs the Kalpaka trees of the gods with their trunks,
shuTrum mEviya kiLaiyai vaLaittoDikkumE - encircles and breaks the branches all around.
oLir sEya candranODu vinu palAmarangaLilE- On the tall jackfruit trees, ( so tall and) rubbing against the bright moon,
nerungiya tInkani madhu rasattai vaDikkumE - the sweet fruits growing densely, drip nectar ,
mandi pAngil ninradanai aLLik-kuDikkumE - and the female monkeys stand nearby and cup this with their hands and drink it.

candana maram - The sandalwood tree
antaram uruvi vaLarndu - that has grown penetrating the sky
indiran ulagu kaDandappuram pOi ninrasaiyum - and sways going beyond the heaven of Indra
tappidam illAdu kaiyAl vandanam engaL ArumAmukha nAthanukkiDumAru pOla - like one would unfailingly lift one's hands and salute our six-faced lord,
visAlamuTra kombattanaiyum ninru talai sAikkumE - bows its heads with all its broad branches,
aNDap-pittikai tanilum senru tEikkumE - and scrapes against the edge of the universe.

caraNam 6

kandaram torum kiDandu - Living in every cave,
tiral singamE - the brave lion
kandaram bhayam todunga garjanai puriyum - roars such that ones' throat goes dry with fear,
nenjil accamurum viNNurai mAtangamE - and even the heavenly elephant (Airavata)experiences fear in his heart.
taDangAvilE - In the huge forest ,
mAvirAl naDuvE - into the huge honeycombs
siladAvilE vaLar - that grow in some hollows,
kirAdigargaL kArmukham eyum kaNaigaL ErumE - the arrows that the hunters shoot from their bows rise,
adil vAr madhuvAl - and because of the honey that spurts out ( due to the arrows)
vAri uvar mArumE - the sea loses it salinity!

vEDaminnAr - The hunter women,
kAlavaDi vEl neDiya vAL koDiya nAgam umizh kAri piNai vAri kaNaibAnalE anna kUr nayana - with darting eyes sharp as black spears and long swords and arrows that spit fire like the cruel cobras venom, doe eyes, (deep as the) ocean and (intoxicating like) toddy,
EnalE kAkkum kAlai - while they protect their fields, (to scare away birds that come to feed on the crop),
mEleri mOduvAr kavaNODu mAmaNi dEsu vIsavE - and send up huge gems on their slings and those gems scatter light,
kadiravan tanadu mukham shuzhikkumE - the Sun god frowns
avan kudiraiyum kaNNai shurukki vizhikkumE - and his horses blink and stare.

caraNam 8

jnAlam adil - Upon this earth
Olamali kOla nIla vElai shUzhum - which is surrounded by the noisy beautiful blue waves,
Ongu kOngagil nAngilAngali pAngu nIngaru vEngai i pUngazhai - the flowering branches of various trees like tall silk-cotton, frankincense, mesua, coconut, ever-beautiful Vengai etc.
vaitta pala cittira sOpAnamE enna - that grow as if they were a lovely staircase set up
uttamar inbattuDanE vAnamE sella - for noble souls to climb happily to heaven,
onrODonru vambu koNDu nILumE - stretch as if to tease/fight one another
kOLgaL senru senru ninru ninru mILumE - and the heavenly bodies weave in and out through them.
