Meaning:

pallavi

pArungaL vandu pArungaL - Come and see (this wonder) !
ATTudu pAmbu piDAranaiyE - A snake is making the charmer (its master) dance.

Note : That the Rishi Patanjali, who is a snake, asked Shiva to dance, is mentioned here indirectly.

anupallavi

Arum kANavE - For everyone to see,
tillai ambalattil - in the Sabha of Chidambaram,
vEDikkaiyAlE - playfully,
padam muyalOn mElE - placing a foot on Apasmara,
vEDikkai - (there is this) spectacle !

caraNam 1

ArUrip-puTriDam amarndirundadum pOccu - Gone is the (glory of) taking abode in the anthill at Tiruvarur.
AbharaNamAi meiyyilaNindadum vIN pEccu - It's useless talking about His wearing snakes on His body as ornaments.
kArUriv-viSamuNDa kathaiyai shonnAl Eccu - Speaking of the tale of swallowing this dense black poison, is disgrace!
kai shilaikkuk-kayiRAi kaTTiyadum ennAccu - What happened to the (brave deed) tying a snake as the string for the bow of His hand?

Note : In these events Shiva was more powerful than snakes - occupying the anthill that snakes ususally inhabit, wearing them as adornments, drinking poison with no harm to Him, tying the snake Vasuki to His bow, the Meru, when going to destroy the Tripuras. (But now a snake is making Him dance)

caraNam 2

gaganat takara viddai kaTradanAl enna - What is the use of mastering the Dahara VIdya?
kaTrum ellAm valla siddhanAgiyum enna - What is the use of becoming an all-powerful Siddha having learnt all (the arts) ?
sakala mantrattirkkut-talaivanAghiyum enna - What is the use of being the master of all Mantras?
talaiyirk-kaDikkETra paccilai vaittirundum enna - What is the use of wearing herbs that are antidotes to snakebites on His head?

Note : Such a person, who has Siddhis, knows Mantras or has herbs, should not be afraid of snakes.

caraNam 3

maikkaN maDandai kANa - While Parvati, the lady with eyes painted with collyrium, watches,
kaikkuL mazhuvai vaittu - holding fire in His hand,
mAya uyirAm pandai kAya shembil maraittut - hiding the ball of life, in the pot of body (of creatures),
takka tozhilukkETra kokkiRakait-tarittu - wearing a crane's feather that is suitable to this profession,
sabhaik-kETra kUttADa samarthan enbadai uTru - understanding that He is the competent one to perform in a stage/hall (come and see)

Note: The fire, ball, pot etc are accessories used by those performing tricks like sleight of hand. Like the snake charmer making the snake dance, another kind of public performance is hinted here.
